In the Instrumentation and Control Engineering curriculum, an effort is made
to cover not only the traditional Instrumentation and Control engineering
techniques but the advanced Instrumentation and Control engineering techniques
too. The Instrumentation and Control curriculum covers the following practical oriented courses.
Industrial electronics
Industrial Drives and Control
Process Instrumentation
Process Measurement
Process control
Transducers and Transmitters
Microprocessor based instrumentation
Electronics Instrumentation
PLSs, DAS, DCS, etc.
In order to strengthen the theoretical knowledge given to the students in the
classroom, the department provides the well established laboratory facilities to
the students, They include
Pulse and switching circuits
Microprocessor programming and Applications
Electronic Instrumentation /Circuits
Digital Techniques
Electronics communication
Process Instrumentation I and II
System Engineering and Product Design.
Industrial Devices and control
Measurement and Control Techniques.
Besides the above, the department is having the Computer Controlled
Multiprocess Trainer which is a simulation of such industrial measurement and
control techniques as flow, temperature and level measurement. The trainer also
gives knowledge of such control techniques as feedback, ratio, cascade and feed
forward control of process. Also, the students can access the computers as and
when required during their project work.
Also, the experts from the industries are invited to conduct seminars /
deliver lectures on real world instrumentation and control engineering
techniques. This activities are done by the "ISA- Student section"
started at GEC, Gandhinagar in Sept'97.
As a part of the curriculum the final year students do the project work
during 7 and 8 semesters and thereby they show their ability to implement the theoretical as well as practical knowledge in their field of interest. For doing project work, the students are sent to the industries and it is necessary for the award of degree.
