The chemical Engineering Department started along with the inception of the Government Engineering College, Gandhinagar in 1994. The department is headed by Prof. ( Dr.) P. A. Joshi who is having a rich teaching and research experience of 20 years. The department is having 2 assistant professors and 7 lectures. The department is yet to develop laboratory facilities and basic infrastructure installation in all subjects of Chemical Engineering. Most of the task related to development is over but enrichment is still to continue.

 

    The department has got recognition as an Environmental Auditor for Schedule - industries from Gujarat Pollution control Board. Shortly the department is going to develop an Environmental Engineering Laboratory specially for the above purpose. Till date, two batches of students in 1998 and 1999 have been passed from department with good performance and the third batch is sheduled to pass in july, 2000. The department is planning to start testing and consulting facilities for the outside agencies. The department is recognized by IIChe.

 

    The department organizes vocational training courses for the students of undergraduations in Chemical Engineering. As per the syllabus students are supposed to take minimum of 30 days training. The department actively helps them for taking training at various places. Short term industrial visits are regularly organized in every semesters. To help the students avail literature from various sources the faculty members advice and send them to various important study or library centers for the project and training guidance. Beside faculty members, students are also sent to interact with outside agencies. Our student Mr. Vijay Patel secured his 1st rank amongst all colleges in Chemical Engineering in Gujarat university in the year 1999.

 

Laboratories.

    The department has well established Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Operation , Mass transfer, Heat transfer, Chemical Process industry, Process instrumentation, Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals, Fertilizer Technology, Chemical Reacting Engg., Transport Phenomena Laboratories.
